What is the Communication Workout?

Our Communication Workout is a collection of games and activities to help build children’s communication skills. Each activity sheet focuses on a specific area to help improve speech and language. For each area, there’s a tailored sheet for early years, key stage 1 and key stage 2.

We’ve recently reflected on the power of rhyme and how it can be used to support children’s language and literacy development. So, with that in mind we’re sharing some rhyme-related activities from our Communication Workout collection. Our rhyming activities can help the children practice listening to and creating rhymes. Being able to identify and play with rhyme is an important skill for reading and, for older children, spelling too.

Who is the Communication Workout For?

The activities are perfect for teachers and TAs to use with individuals or small groups. They’re also a great tool to share with parents and use at home with their child. Everything you need is in the activity sheet, including instructions and activities with imagery - just print them out and give them a go.

We’d love to know how you and the children find the activities. Make sure to let us know in the comments below.
