It’s a busy time of year with the lead up to Christmas, though hopefully still time for lots of talk and interaction with the children around us. Although there’s lots going on, pausing and taking time out for some rich conversations with children can be just the tonic we need.
With this in mind, we’ve done a Communication Advent Calendar, with 25 simple activities to do with children to support their speech, language and communication.
We’ve tried to make them general enough to work for children of different ages, though focused enough to encourage language and communication. They can all be adapted to suit your children, so do just use them in any way that works for you.
Most importantly, they’re all Christmas themed and FUN!
Most you can do with no planning. Where picture resources are needed, we’ve included them so you can just print them off and go. The activities and pictures are on the PDFs, so make sure you download these before you start.
Feel free to do all of the activities in the order that we have suggested on the calendar, or if this feels too much, just try out some of them in an order that works for you. Maybe share with parents so they can try out some of the activities over the holidays.
We’d love to hear about your Christmas conversations, so do share how you get on or the funny and interesting things children share with us about Christmas.
