Last week we wrote a blog about the new government advice regarding screen use for young children. We reflected on the importance of children interacting with people to build their language skills and be curious about the world around them, though acknowledged how challenging it can be for parents to balance things, especially in an age where we are surrounded by screens that pull our attention and that of our children.
I was out and about a lot over the Easter break recently and noticed lots of children on trains, in buggies and in cafes using screens, not really engaging with what was going on around them. It is understandable – children get bored and as a parent, it can be difficult to know how to balance screen time. So, we thought we would share some simple activities that can fit into day to day activities when at home or out and about. We’ve attached 5 ideas for non screen activities at home and 5 for when out and about with children. We’ve also suggested how to integrate technology into some of these activities without taking away from the interaction.
We hope they are useful.
